Downtown Square Beautification
Monmouth Downtown Beautification - Project 119
The City is revitalizing its downtown through a multi-phase Beautification Project, focusing on the public square and the 100 - 200 blocks of North and South Main Streets. Funded by $4.5 million in state grants and local contributions, the project includes:
Phase 1 (2024-2025): Upgrades to the public square with new sidewalks, ADA accessibility, pedestrian crossings, diagonal parking, planted medians, benches, pedestrian lamps, and rain gardens. Underground infrastructure, like water mains and sewers, is also being repaired. Work began in June 2024, with completion expected by Fall 2025.
Phase 2 (2026): Extends improvements to the 200 blocks of North and South Main Streets, using the same design elements.
Key Features: Reduces traffic to one lane, adds diagonal parking, enhances pedestrian-friendliness, and modernizes infrastructure to support local businesses and improve aesthetics.
Impact: Aims to boost economic growth, enhance accessibility, and create an attractive downtown for residents and visitors.
This generational project will transform Monmouth’s downtown into a vibrant, functional commercial hub.
